Alsi (flax seed) Laddu

I wanted to make some nice holiday treats.  Flax seed being one of my favourite foods to eat, I made these flax seed balls (laddu). It is mildly sweet and I hope you enjoy it too...

Ingredients:

Flax seed powdered - 250g or 36 tbsp

Phool makhana (lotus seeds) - 12 tbsp

Almonds - 12 (you may mix almonds and cashews or any of your prefereed nuts)

Jaggery - 155g

Water - 1/4 cup plus 1/8 cup

Ghee or clarified butter - 5 tbsp

Method:-

Lightly roast flax powder for 2 to 3 minutes on medium heat. Set aside in a mixing bowl.

Lightly roast phool makhana until it changes colour. This should take 3 minutes. Crush it and add to the flax powder

Lightly toast almonds for a couple of minutes or so and crush it. Add the crushed almonds to the mixing bowl.

Add jaggery and water in a saucepan and melt. After it starts bubbling turn off stove. Take the saucepan off the stove and add ghee.

After the ghee melts add this mix to the flax powder.  Mix with spoon first and then make even sized balls.  Your treat is now ready to enjoy.
